Romulus Augustulus, for any non-history buffs out there, was reportedly the last emperor of the Roman Empire and a man who was unceremoniously deposed by a barbarian named Odoacer!
According to historians, 'Odoacer considered Romulus so paltry a threat he didn't even bother to assassinate him, but sent him into retirement.' (Source)
Fast-forward to the present time and we have as the leader of the free world one Barack Obama who, in six short years (with two long years yet to go), has severely damaged not only the fabric of our society but has undermined the economic underpinnings of it as well.
At the same time he has impaired our standing as a world power, weakened our military and dithered over the most basic decisions while those that he did make were almost uniformly wrong!
He has also made and refused to make national security and foreign policy moves that have strengthened and emboldened many of our nations enemies including one as sinister and despotic as civilized society has been forced to encounter in a long, long time.
Further compounding the problem is that the President and his administration for some reason refuse to recognize the mortal danger that this enemy, Islamic extremists, present to all of the western world!
So to recognize these accomplishments of failure we wanted to compare and contrast some of the ways that Roman society met its end and see if any parallels can be drawn to the present regime of Barack Obama.
A word of hope in this description of impending doom is that while this President still has two years remaining in his term, the mid-term elections are fast approaching and the low-information and low-IQ voters will hopefully have gotten the message that elections actually do have consequences and cast their ballots in a way that will actually help the country work its way out of the mess the present representatives in Washington have created!
An historical look back at the rise and fall of a democracy!
Does this description and sequencing look strangely familiar?
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising them the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over a loss of fiscal responsibility, always followed by a dictatorship. The average of the world's great civilizations before they decline has been 200 years. These nations have progressed in this sequence:
From bondage to spiritual faith,
From spiritual faith to great courage,
From courage to liberty,
From liberty to abundance,
From abundance to selfishness,
From selfishness to complacency,
From complacency to apathy,
From apathy to dependency,
From dependency back again to bondage." (Source)
Some reasons why the Roman Empire fell and it is up to the reader to determine if any similarities can be drawn to the current time!
- Invasions by Barbarian tribes (Islamic extremists),
- The rise of other powers (China, Russia),
- Economic troubles that led it to crumble from within due to a severe financial crisis,
- Government corruption and political instability (IRS scandal, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, etc),
- The arrival of the Huns and the migration of the Barbarian tribes (See #1),
- The loss of traditional values (number of Americans on some form of government assistance, Knockout Game, number of one parent households, etc),
- Weakening of the military (speaks for itself). (Source)
Bottom line? Elections, as those who did not already know, have consequences making the 2014 mid-terms and 2016 presidential elections two of the most important in our nations history!
