My higher taxes thought of the day!

It now appears higher taxes may be unavoidable while true entitlement spending reform is less certain!

Thought of the day:

It seems to me that the only people out in front promoting higher taxes are the actual ulta-wealthy for whom higher taxes won't make one iota of difference in their lives. Who really cares what Warren Buffet or Mort Zuckerman thinks?

The hit the middle class is going to take from the assorted mix of new taxes from programs like Obamacare in addition to changes in taxation on earned income, capital gains and other sources is going to be detrimental to our way of life while Warren Buffet and his secretary are going to be fine.

Higher taxes on dividends or increase in the tax rate on capital gains? What do people think is in the mutual funds that they own in their 401k's that they are relying on for retirement?

Reduction in the mortgage interest deduction? What do you think that will do to property values let alone tax liability. Wasn't this one of the reasons we made the buy versus rent decision in the first place?

But, while the Republicans appear as if they are caving on higher taxes, where is the discussion about real entitlement and other federal spending reform? The Democrats seem to want that off of the table and that cannot be allowed to happen!

Stay tuned because it could get ugly!

The Obamaphone music video remix: Serenading a White House lunch!

Remember the Obamaphone lady?

The election is history and we are all painfully aware of the outcome, but how about a look back at reasons why some of the Obama supporters came out to vote!

And what could be more appropriate than doing so on the day that Mitt Romney is going to break bread with the President at a White House lunch?

The Obamaphone lady wanted everyone at a Cleveland rally being held for Mitt Romney to know why Barack Obama was getting her vote in the presidential election and why he should be getting ours as well.

The bottom-line? Free stuff!

The Obamaphone lady, no music!

The translation of her argument from the video is:

“Everybody in Cleveland, low minorities, got Obama phone. Keep Obama in president, you know. He gave us a phone, he gonna do more.”

The person shooting the video asks, How did he give you a phone? To which the woman replies: “You sign up! If you on food stamps, you on social security, you got low income, you disability…”

The video includes a cut at that point and picks up with the filmer asking “What’s wrong with Romney?”

Without blinking, the passionate Obama supporter says:

“Romney, he sucks! Bad.”

And now the Obamaphone lady in a music video remix!

Obama first-term critique! Failure, failure, failure...!

Question: Besides campaigning, fundraising and marketing his brand to gullible Americans what does President Obama bring to the table? In many ways that question comes down to respect or a lack thereof!
  • Is he a strong leader who is equally respected on both sides of the aisle?
  • Is he a great communicator who brings sides together rather than drive them apart for political purposes only?
  • Has he had success growing our economy, reducing unemployment, creating jobs or in getting Americans off of their dependency on the federal government for subsistence?
  • Is the United States more respected or even, gulp, feared around the world?
  • Is he strong on national defense and foreign policy? For instance does he whisper sweet nothings about flexibility after the election into the ear of the Russian Prime Minister? Does he protect our embassies and embassy staff as if they were on U.S. soil which in effect they are?
  • Is his administration filled with people who are well respected by politicians and citizens alike and who are beyond reproach? Immediately coming to mind would be Attorney General Eric Holder and "Fast and Furious".
  • Does he seem to spend more time dodging questions than he does actually answering questions?
I most likely could have come up with even more questions (which you are more than welcome to do below) but assuming that this was a Yes and No-style test what do you imagine that your answer sequence might look like?

An example: Egypt, the Arab Spring and predictable outcomes!

First let me say that as the humble writer of a semi-successful blog I certainly lay no claim to the title of foreign affairs genius or Middle East scholar.

That said, the current crisis in Egypt personified by the riots taking place in Tahrir Square aimed squarely against Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood leader of the country, was not only predictable but was predicted.

These riots are taking place because the citizenry is somehow surprised at, but understandably unhappy about, the fact that Mohamed Morsi has erased any semblance of a democracy by assuming the position of dictator when he had promised that he wouldn't. Imagine that!

Let's recap: In July 2011, about 7 months after the "Arab Spring" began in Tunisia, I had written the following:

For those of you still operating under the assumption that the Obama administrations handling of the Middle East "Arab Spring" has in some way been for the purpose of driving the ideals of democracy to countries unfamiliar with it, think again.

It has always been curious to me that those governments and leaders somewhat friendly to Israel and the United States (i.e. Egypt) have been strongly encouraged by the Obama administration to step-down in order to let "democracy" take its course.

This, while those governments hostile to the U.S. and Israel have faced more of a hands off policy out of Washington (i.e. Syria), even as they slaughter their own people.

Further, the Obama administration has publicly offered the opinion that the Muslim Brotherhood, poised to assume considerable power in Egypt, is a secular and not terrorist organization. Nothing could be further from the truth of course.

Is this just part of some master plan from this President?

Or is it just an inexperience and naivete that could have dire consequences for the region and the world?

I think, conspiracy theorists aside, that the former may in fact be the case.

So the question might be that if I could see the handwriting on the wall, where was the President and his policy experts?

Most likely in the same place they were in when all of the warnings leading up to the September 11 attack on our embassy in Benghazi were ignored. Only then the President was in Vegas fundraising while the policy experts were stuck in their Washington offices.

Four more years!

So now the country has hitched its wagon for four more years to a President and an administration that appears to be more of a vaudeville routine than a well honed machine out to do what is best for the country.

We face an imminent "Fiscal Cliff" and what we get from the President is divisive rhetoric rather than constructive leadership while at the same time he claims some imaginary mandate from the American people when his showing in the popular vote was anything but.

We face the potential for war between Israel and any number of other countries as well as a nuclear Iran while the administration cedes decision making to that organization with an even longer history of ineffectiveness than Barack Obama, the United Nations!

We face high unemployment and economic malaise with quantitative easing the only answer coming from the government while QE 1, 2 and 3 have not worked and QE 4 most likely will have that same result.

Then we face the full implementation of Obamacare. For a government that can't run any program well, within budget or without bloated and inefficient bureaucracy, what chance does the American public have to receive quality healthcare that doesn't kill business, jobs and people at the same time?

There's more but for those of us who live on "Main Street" we can only hope for the best from the next four years but if history is any guide from this President we need to expect the worst.

Flashback: Two and a Half Men was and still is a sinkhole of morality! (Video)

Flash-forward: Angus T. Jones, millionaire child star and the 1/2 in Two and a Half Men was struck down by a sudden case of morality telling viewers to tune-out!

What do you think about an employee made wealthy by your product who suddenly catches a case of morality and religion?

This after "discovering" that the story lines of the episodes he has been participating in for years are not fit for consumption by minors or by many adults.

Why didn't he quit a long time ago? Why doesn't he quit now?

"Is Morality a Four-Letter Word?"

This was the title of an article that I wrote in The Political Commentator back in 2008 when I saw an episode of Two and a Half Men and came to realize the level of depravity that it apparently took young Angus much longer to figure out.

For full disclosure I continued to watch as it is an extremely funny show much as Angus continued to act in it. For either him or his family it was an extremely healthy payday that made overlooking the weekly plot lines possible.

Here is the text of the article and below it a video with the current statement by Angus T. Jones:

What Ever Happened To Morality, Especially When Kids Are Watching?

I have gotten used to E.D. commercials morning, noon and night when young kids are watching T.V., and they are wondering what an erection is, why it would last more than four hours, why the sink handle is falling off and spurting water into the air, why the couple is going into the bedroom and shutting the door, why these people are sitting in side by side bath tubs, naked, looking at the ocean and so on and so on. The people who censor and who are responsible for keeping these and other inappropriate things off of the airwaves must have been off work or in the bathroom when they discussed airing these. A micro second of Janet Jackson's breast during the Super Bowl raised a national uproar, but somehow these commercials are OK.

Two and a Half Men

This brings me to this show that is on T.V., again during times when kids are watching. I was getting ready to go out and the channel was on showing a re-run of this show, and I could not believe some of the things that are allowed on television. Not innuendos, but straight out references to sexual acts, body parts, incest, infidelity etc. I just had to comment on the fact that it appears that the breakdown in morality is complete, and standards in this country when dollars are involved has reached epic proportions. Worse, it appears to be getting done with the outright approval of the people whose job it is to make sure that what is shown, at least during times when children are watching, is appropriate.
Now don't get me wrong, I am not a prude and my children are old enough to understand, but for families with young children this should just not be allowed on air, unless it is after a certain time when kids should be asleep. Now I am not trying to pick on this show, but I went and looked at some of the titles of episodes, and while I have not seen them, I can only imagine:

Two and a Half Men (Episode List Season 5)

City of Great Racks
The Leather Gear is in the Guest Room
Kinda Like Necrophilia
Rough Night in Hump Junction (aka His Ugly Bundle)
If My Hole Could Talk
Waiting for the Right Snapper

Is Anyone In The T.V. Standards Department Watching? This Is Just Unbelievable?

Two must watch videos: John Bolton on Obama and Egypt and Pat Condell on Israel and Hamas!

John Bolton and Pat Condell speak the truth about the imminent danger in the Middle East despite what you might hear out of the Obama administration!

First former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton speaks to the naivete of Barack Obama concerning who and what Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt are and what their endgame most likely is.

Then Pat Condell, English writer and political commentator speaks to what he sees as the realities of the Hamas-Israeli conflict! And it isn't about Hamas desire for peace in the Middle East to be sure because according to Condell as long as there is Hamas there will never be peace!

Political science: What is a group of baboons called?

If you said congress you would be correct! This fact goes a long way towards explaining one of the major reasons why the country is currently heading in the wrong direction!

Of course rounding out the reasoning can easily be accomplished by tipping a glance towards the White House!

Watcher's Council results: Arab Spring Part 2 Edition! (Blog aggregator)

Is the world looking at the Arab Spring, Part 2?

Almost two years since the Obama administration had a hand in forcing Hosni Mubarak to step down, a move that led to the subsequent ascension to power of Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood in "democratic" elections, violence is once again taking place in Tahrir Square in what could be called Arab Spring Part 2!

The cause of the unrest is the sweeping dictatorial powers assumed by Morsi which he claims are only temporary but that one would assume may turn out to be anything but.

Do the strong-arm tactics now being used by this member of the Muslim Brotherhood have anything to do with the effusive praise heaped on the Egyptian government by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for its help in brokering a deal between Israel and Hamas?

Did this embolden Morsi to take this step?

It's impossible to say but if it does it would not be the first foreign policy miscalculation/failure for the Obama administration! And now...

Welcome to the Watcher's Council voting results for the week of November 19, 2012!

The Watcher's Council nominations for the week of November 19th were presented, the votes were cast and counted, and the winner will now been announced!

For those who may be enjoying their first Watcher's Council experience, it is a group that consists of some of the top conservative bloggers from around the world.

A group that The Political Commentator is extremely proud to have been asked to be part of!

Each week members select and submit an article of their own creation in addition to one article from a non-council blog they find to be particularly topical and important.

While you may not always agree with what you read, that alone may make the experience that much more valuable!

Once the submissions have been received at an undisclosed location hidden somewhere on the Left Coast of the United States, the Watchers Council members then individually vote for their favorites.

Those votes are protected and held by outside auditing firm Arthur Andersen until such time as they are counted and a winner named for the Grand Prize.

This Grand Prize consists of the appreciation of ones peers.

In the end though, we all win because of the range of information and important analysis received on the critical issues of the day.

In a nutshell, the Watchers Council is the ultimate conservative blog aggregator!
So without further ado the winner(s) of the Watcher's Council for the week of November 19th is (are)...?
