Manny Pacquiao was knocked out Saturday night by a vicious right-hand thrown by Juan Manuel Marquez!
But could there be more to the story than that?
In an ironic twist, Manny Pacquiao was visited prior to the fight in his dressing room by former U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney who was there as a guest of Nevada State Athletic Commission chairman Bill Brady.
The purpose of the Romney conversation with Pacquiao was ostensibly to give the boxer from the Phillipines a pep talk although based on the outcome of both the US presidential election and the bout the boxer from the Philippines should have kept his door locked.
Soon after Pacquiao was knocked out by a Marquez right-hand in the 6th-round, rumblings around the blogosphere (no sources found) suggested that something else may have been afoot in Sin City.
There have been suggestions made in some quarters that the win by Marquez, a fighter from Mexico, could possibly be tied to some effort by the Republican Party to move this important demographic towards the GOP in the 2014 mid-term elections.
While the complete details of the Romney-Pacquiao conversation are not known, the following transcript has been released that on its face seem very innocent:
"I wish you good luck tonight," a smiling Romney said in front of television cameras to Pacquiao, who has won world titles in an unprecedented eight weight divisions. "Have a great night. Good to see you."
According to Pacquiao's publicist Fred Sternburg, Romney began the short conversation by saying: "Hello Manny. I ran for president. I lost." (Source)
So while any ideas concerning how this conspiracy theory could possibly have any truth behind it is difficult to fathom, rest assured that we have most likely not heard the last of the Romney-Pacquia connection!
