Happy Anniversary! #OWS seeks to occupy Trinity Church owned Duarte Square in Manhattan!

Here we go again with rumors swirling that #OWS is looking to move-in on Trinity Church owned Duarte Square in New York City!

The purpose of the occupation would apparently be to celebrate the 3-month anniversary of the #OWS movement that, much like a Seinfeld episode, is a lot of noise about nothing!

Dubbed Occupation 2.0

With Archbishop Desmond Tutu lobbying for the church to allow the protesters to use the land, Trinity Church has so far declined.

Says #OWS, "After a series of evictions at their encampments around the country, Occupy Wall Street protesters want the next phase of their movement to begin in a vacant lot on Canal Street and Sixth Avenue that’s owned by Trinity Church, but the church won’t let them use the space. On Saturday, the demonstrators plan to make the three month anniversary of Occupy Wall Street with a rally. According to a press release sent out by the Occupy Wall Street media team, Saturday’s event is designed as “part of a call to re-occupy in the wake of the coordinated attacks and subsequent evictions of occupations” and an effort to “urge Trinity Church to do the right thing...” (PolitickerNY)

Say Trinity Church, "We want to be responsive, while also being responsible, to our residential and business neighbors, partners, visitors and tenants — our entire community. There are no facilities at the Canal St lot. Demanding access and vandalizing the property by a determined few OWS protesters won't alter the fact that there are no basic elements to sustain an encampment. The health, safety and security problems posed by an encampment here, compounded by winter weather, would dwarf those experienced at Zuccotti Park.

"Calling this an issue of 'political sanctuary' is manipulative and blind to reality. Equating the desire to seize this property with uprisings against tyranny is misguided, at best. Hyperbolic distortion drives up petition signatures, but doesn't make it right. Those arrested [on November 15 at Duarte Square] were not seeking sanctuary; they were seeking to be arrested. Trinity will continue our responsible outreach and pastoral services for all." (Guardian)

Three-month anniversary or not, this new strategy promises to just be more of the same directionless and purposeless protest attended by malcontents, radicals and the useful idiots being controlled by puppet masters who continue to remain out of sight.

I believe what we will notice however, is that the liberal politicians and Hollywood types have learned their lesson and most likely will keep their distance!

  1. The Occupy protesters should be invited to occupy a pew on Sunday with other worshippers...not in protest of anything but as an opportunity to get their heads and hearts right. Maybe then they can put aside many aspects of their protests that were indeed problematic. They can then return to society in America as a part of the 1% in the world who have more than most in other countries throughout the world...have something to contribute and perhaps you will get a job...nothing is owed to you. You are not asking for justice...you wouldn't like it...mercy is what you are asking for.

  2. The problem is you can't get high in church and you have to pee in a bathroom. Wouldn't work!

  3. You don’t need to be religious to understand -and embrace- the idea that "Whatsoever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." But the 1%, in their blind greed and schemes, have forgotten and closed their eyes to this, and to what the word "society" should really mean. Because of Occupy Wall Street, we are finally talking less about CUTS and more about BLEEDING. Instead of demanding m-o-r-e budget cuts -to be borne by the middle class and poor- we are FINALLY focusing on the shameful bleeding that the poor and middle class has endured for all too long. Instead of talking about even m-o-r-e cuts in the taxes of millionaires....we are now talking about fairness and justice - about an economy and a political system that is increasingly run for the rich, and by the rich. Instead of talking about LESS government, we are talking about a government that WORKS FOR ALL OF US, not just a favored few. Thank you OWS, for reminding us that people -ordinary working people- really DO matter, and for helping open our eyes to what’s really going on in this country. Trinity Church should look deep into its collective soul, do the right thing, and help OWS. For I would bet my life, that if He were physically with us today...as He was 2000 years ago, He himself would be the FIRST to climb those fences, and occupy Trinity’s Duarte Square. Of this I am certain.

  4. Having been to the protest in Zuccotti Park I would say that if "He" were there "He" would have disagreed with the motives of about 99% of the group there that says that they represent the 99%!
