Update 12:30PM EST: After this article was published I ironically received the following Yahoo "news" alert. It is a sad reminder that US national security has been ceded to the IAEA and United Nations!
"UN atomic agency 'increasingly worried' Iran is secretly working on nuke arms program"
Reelection aside, the Iran nuclear weapons program still needs to be addressed!
Out of sight, out of mind is the business as usual Washington approach to impending crises.
A perfect example was the debate over the debt ceiling being raised when all involved parties knew that it needed to be addressed long before the 11th hour was reached.
Obama preoccupation with issues that don't seem to include foreign policy and national security!
At the current time, and most likely for the foreseeable future, President Obama has his sights set on one thing, and one thing only: the 2012 presidential election!
Issues such as the US economy and jobs creation will take center stage for the President, only in the context of how it can either help or hurt him politically.
Issues that are not on the radar of the electorate will tend not to be on his radar either.
This includes the Middle East, the Iran nuclear weapons program, the porous border with Mexico and anything else that has to do with foreign policy and national security.
If however, polling data starts to indicate that the American public is concerned with one or more of these issues, why then so will the President.
Labor Day weekend reminder reading for the President on the Iran nuclear weapons program!
The following articles will hopefully help President Obama and the rest of the Obama administration remember that crises such as Iran still exist. That there is more to the job of commander-in-chief beyond the focus on the crisis of plummeting poll numbers!
- Iran Moves to Shelter Its Nuclear Fuel Program
- Abbasi-Davani Interview on Iran’s 20 Percent Enrichment
- Iran atomic chief says fuel swap talks over: IRNA
- Iran won't stop uranium enrichment program
- Iranian nuclear bid could provoke attack: Sarkozy
- Iran’s leader warns against West and allies making gains in Arab Spring

This Iran scenario is another inherited problem from former administrations. If The US had worked to prevent Israel from gaining nuclear weapons, Iran would not be doing so today, if in fact, that is what they are doing. If you don't understand that then you have no business complaining about Iran's nuclear program because you don't understand where the impetus came from.
ReplyDeleteInherited or not the problem with Iran exists. Should Obama ignore everything if the problem started in another administration.
ReplyDeleteHe took the job with all of its problems only he chooses not to address any of them.
