You hear about the Obama transparency award? (Jon Stewart video)

President Obama is given an award for government transparency, but you may not have heard about it because it was given in secret!

If an award for transparency is presented in a private, deliberately non-transparent way, what does that say about the awards recipient?

That might be the question to ask about the private White House ceremony that took place in the Oval Office at the end of March. There was no disclosure on the Obama schedule that the event was occurring and there were no photographers or press present.

Is this a case of deja vu all over again. Remember back to when the President was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for no other reason than the expectation that at some point he would be a deserving recipient?

Is this just one more example of perception becoming reality? The President did make the point vigorously and often during the 2008 presidential campaign that were he to be elected, his administration would be the most transparent of all time? Then it must now be true right?

The actual reality is that “his administration acted on fewer requests for information last year even as it was asked for more” (newser.com)

What does Jon Stewart think?
