So said the protestors at a rally in New York City's Union Square on Sunday!Of course the issue as the demonstrators position it, is that terrorism and the need for war in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere is not a function of the actions and ideology of Islamic extremists. Actually, it is just one more example of Islamophobia, and a persecution of those of those of the Muslim faith.
It seems that America, a great and civilized society and Americans, a great and civilized people, need to overlook the fact that the bulk of terrorist attacks attempted and successfully carried out in the United States and abroad were done so by Muslim extremists.
We need to forget about calls for jihad, the oppression of those who are not Muslim, the oppression of women whether they are Muslim or not, the growth of homegrown terrorists drawn in by the call for jihad, calls for the destruction of the State of Israel and the rest.
No, it is up to America and Americans to assimilate to the beliefs and societal structure of those who move to our country because to do otherwise would be an example of Islamophobia and intolerance at its greatest extreme. To expect those who come to the United States to assimilate to our culture would be an unreasonable and some might say racist request.
It seems therefore that we need to place the blame for all of our woes and the woes of people around the world on ourselves, because to points fingers elsewhere, regardless of the evidence at hand, is simply being phobic!
Alternatively, it is this exact call for political correctness in our society as a way of life that will ultimately doom us.
