Neil Cavuto interview with former USGS geologist Jim Berkland who claims a 75% success rate in earthquake prediction!"... Mainstream scientists generally try to debunk various aspects of my earthquake predictions or to ridicule me personally, with epithets such as crackpot or clown. My response is to question their own records in earthquake prediction, and to point out that the main action of a stream is not near the center, but closer to the edge. Near the fringes, with eddies and cross-currents, erosion and deposition are more effective, sometimes leading to changes in the course of the stream. Conformity does not lead to invention. Scientific progress is not achieved by majority vote. Following my pilgrimage to Gizeh with John Anthony West, I discovered the meaning of life: To seek your purpose and strive to achieve it. Anything less is a waste of existence. I am fortunate to have found that my purpose is to de-mystify earthquakes for the public so that meaningful preparations take the place of fatalistic attitudes, that often prove fatal.
The experts of High Science state that earthquake prediction is currently a scientific impossibility. I maintain that the topic is too important to leave to the experts and I continue to do the impossible with a better than 75% battering average , which is more than 300% greater than chance..."
CAVUTO: What does that presage? When you have events like that, what does that generally mean? What's going on in the waters?
BERKLAND: Changes -- changes in the magnetic field that off then precede larger earthquakes. Most animals have the mineral magnetite in their bodies, including people. But it causes homing pigeons to enable them to get home. Just before big quakes, they often can't get home. There is the delay factor. So we look for those kinds of things.
Just before the World Series quake there was very unusual beaching of rare whales in the Ocean Beach, in San Francisco. Just after that, a equally rare pigmy sperm whale washed up at Santa Cruz, within about five miles of the epicenter of the World Series quake. That kind of beaching had never occurred before nor since. So we're looking for strange fish coming into from deepwater to the shallow water, wild animals coming into cities.
I used to just scoff at these kinds of things, because I was a mainstream geologist until I found out that earthquakes are fitting a pattern. The big earthquake in the Indian Ocean followed massive beachings of whales in Taiwan -- not Taiwan, but New Zealand and Australia and Tasmania. And then within couple of days, they had a 8.3 in south of New Zealand, and then came the 9.1 in the Indian Ocean, with the big tsunami, on the very day of the fool moon...

Not trying to be picky, however, the last couple of words in this article "fool moon" should be read as "full Moon"...
ReplyDeleteNo worries. It is a direct quote. I didn't write it.
ReplyDelete"fool moon" Perhaps was intentional? The 'fools' that will choose to "scoff" this off as a "crackpot or clown?" hhhmmmm.
ReplyDeleteI like "fool moon" better -mainstream geologist
ReplyDeleteThat is just great, given that California nuclear plants have no earthquake plans according to this article:
ReplyDelete"In California the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant has continually been cited as earthquake prone, yet no emergency plan exists in the case of a quake. The plant, built over a quarter century ago, sits less than a mile from a fault line along the coast. Not only does the plant merely not have a plan in place, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission fought against requiring such a plan. "
Please remember, people, that transcriptions are what the recorder heard, not what the guest actually said. Therefore, some intelligent interpretation may be required. Thus, "battering average" can easily be interpreted as "batting average", etc. Likewise "fool moon".
ReplyDeletespaceweather .com tells us of every solar flare emitted by Mr Sun called CME's. If the next one faces Earth=Alaska down to Mexicali will be overdue. Each flare in 2011 was resulted in a deadly quake.
ReplyDeleteI predicted the last 2;but who really cares. Make your peace and prepare; and if wrong at least your ready to go camping!
Thanks for the link...will be interesting to watch how the next few weeks go.
ReplyDeleteRegards
??? Really? We are worried about typos when this article is warning that there might be a huge earthquake in California? Get food and water storage and necessary supplies on hand just in case. It could happen anywhere..
ReplyDeleteIt's ALWAYS good to be prepared in California, so even if Berkland is wrong about the timing, there will be one sooner or later. So just shut up and get prepared!
ReplyDeleteI AGREE WITH WHAT MR JIM BERKLAND IS PREDICTING ABOUT A MAJOR SEISMIC EVENT IN CALIFORNIA . EARTHQAUKE COULD HAPPEN IN ANY PLACE IN THE WORLD BUT THE ONLY SERIOUS QUESTION IS WHAT ARE THE ADEQUATE MEASURES TAKEN TO AVOID BIG LOSSES OF LIVES AND SPECIALLY COUNTRIES HAVING NUCLEAR PLANT AROUND ? PERHAPS IT IS TIME FOR THE IRANIAN GOVERNMENT TO THINK TWICE ABOUT HER NUCLEAR PROGRAM EVEN IF IT IS FOR CIVIL PURPOSES .THE MIGHTY NATURE AND GOD WILL PREVAIL OVER SCIENCE.
ReplyDeleteWe know that now is our turn.
ReplyDeleteCalifornian
TO ALL THE RESIDENTS OF CALIFORNIA KEEP IN MIND THAT CALIFORNIA IS BROKE SO YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN, GET READY & MAKE SURE YOUR EMERGENCY SUPPLIES ARE NEAR THE FLOOR. BE SURE TO INCLUDE MEDS & EXTRA EYEGLASSES. TRUST ME, NOTHING STAYS WHERE YOU PUT IT. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT
ReplyDeleteHow can I believe someone who doesn't even take the time to revise their writings and claims? That typo was obvious. If California really did get hit by a high magnitude earthquake all of the USA would be there no matter how "broke" we are. I would prepare for this either way. I'm not sure who this guy even is. I've never heard his name and by the way no one can read the future. How come he didn't predict the earthquake in Japan? This just doesn't make too much sense to me. It just all seems like a coincidence to me....
ReplyDeletebecause of japans fault movement was so large (13m), crustal mass has shifted and an increase in earths wobble is at hand. Thus, I think the sequence of crustal movement will be increasing.
ReplyDeleteI expect Seattle north to Alaska to be the next area of crustal stress relief. I know my farm cats are a little agitated right now

ReplyDeleteThis guy is right approximately 75% of the time, and like he said, there are signs that an earthquake is going to happen How else can you explain the fishes swimming to the shore? It is exactly people like you who run the authorities such as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that cost lives. This guy was talking on the news...TALKING. He did not create this manuscript. My goodness.
Mainstream geologist...the term simply means geologists that follow traditional methods of observation. That, in and of itself, is not a bad thing. However, just as with the media, it would be more helpful if everyone's views are considered objectively.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this gentleman may be on the right track, and were I a fellow scientist I would listen and review his findings. There is no doubt that seismic activity affects the orientation of animals. This has already been documented.
People..people...people, get a grip. This isn't anything new. During the summer, we have fires. During the winter we have...that's right, floods. Earthquakes aren't anything new. I'm going to have a huge dinner tonight. In about 6 hours, I predict, you guessed it....I'll have a big BM. Just call me Nostrodamus.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that.
ReplyDeleteAll this California and Madrid faultzone nonsense is nothing more than a diversionary tactic, Japan is under attack since 10 days and yet had more than 600 earthquakes with more than 4.0 on the richter scale, today the US even started to recall all military personal from Japan. This is not about California...
ReplyDeletePlease open your eyes!
Obama is in Brazil...out of the country...he knows something..what it is he knows, no one knows...go figure...
ReplyDeleteTo the person who said Diablo Canyon does not have an earthquake preparedness plan. I worked there for 25 years, we drilled annually with members of all major rescue groups(local, county, state, red cross, national guard,etc...)
ReplyDeletefor disaster preparedness of all kinds, natural or man made. It was part of our licensing to operate the plant. San Luis Obispo county has warning sirens, an emergency plan, even an Emergency Operations Center at the county operations area for all unusual events related to Diablo Canyon.
Some hell of an EQ JK!!
ReplyDeleteJapan is probably the most earthquake prepared country in the world. With 9 in the Richter scale , how can anyone be really prepared for one of nature's worst devastations? If and when it happens in the California fault lines, be prepared to save your own lives.
ReplyDeleteAs far as i know that you cant predict Earthquake not even by the trends.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry but I disagree ~ I think there will be two earthquakes. One in the artic circle like Lapland or North NorthAmerica/ Canada, alaska but I vote for where the Elk and Reindeer with skinny horns are AND One in the south in Patagonia. A triangulation as it were from the activity of Japan (and before that Aussie waters)... That is my personal crackpot prediction.
ReplyDeleteI really like this blog! Just found it but it'll be among my favorites now. Thanks,
ReplyDeleteConnie
Thanks Connie. I really appreciate that!
ReplyDeleteMike
It's the 27th today and no major earthquake yet in CA. I guess this is one of his 25%. You can do some prediction for earthquakes, and there is a lot of 'mainstream' interest in it. However, there is still a lot of uncertainty about it, and you need to be monitoring the right factors. For instance, it's hard to look for beached whales well inland, so that's not a universal indicator.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely correct! Please see:

still no quake...the last adjustment was in Japan...the first was in 1906 in San Francisco...
