Lambs being led to the slaughter or ...

Not seeing the forest for the trees!

Take your pick, but the bottom line is that the naysayers and apologists in Europe and in the United States need to see the facts for what they are. We are, on some real level, at risk!

In our society and under the constructs of a Judeo-Christian belief system it is assumed that all people are inherently good. People are conditioned through their upbringing to respect life, the rights of those around them to live as they choose and to believe as they choose.

Of course as in anything, there will always be exceptions as there are exceptions to any basic rule or tenet. But this is what serves as the basis for the way in which we live.

It is therefore a difficult jump for many to change these basic assumptions and believe that there are some people in some societies who wish to destroy us. That was the case with the Jews in Germany during WWII, and it seems to be the case today in societies around the world.

The Muslim World

There is a basic incredulous disbelief among most in this country that any significant numbers exist in Muslim society who wish to do any of us any harm. The belief is that, as in any society or religion, there may be a small, select group of radicals who give the rest a bad name. But that's the full extent of it.

Is this reality or naivete? What was it that existed within the minds of the leadership in Europe when dealing with Hitler and the Third Reich (i.e. Neville Chamberlain and The Munich Agreement)? It was a basic disbelief and denial that any man could exist at the level of evil that Hitler did.

Political correctness, or striving at all costs not to offend in any way, leaves the United States and other countries exposed and at risk. It may or may not be hard to believe that societal risks are out there, but by reading the papers, stories on the internet and watching 24-hour cable news it tells me that it is a fact!

Europe today is dealing with violence from Muslim factions in many different countries and in many different cities.

The world is dealing with the potential for a nuclear Iran led by a Muslim theocracy government.

The potential exists for the Muslim Brotherhood to assume power in Egypt, putting the stability of the Middle East at risk as well as any semblance of security for Israel. These are just a few examples.

Why are we in America so naive as to assume that we are immune to the same dangers?
