When all else fails, we have France

Russia and China Thumb Their Noses At Sanctions, But Not Our Good Friend France

The United States through the years has always had the back of the French. When the going got tough, the United States was always there to help out. These days, while President Obama tries to get Russia and China to climb on board the sanctions train to Iran, with little tangible success, French President Nicolas Sarkozy has jumped in to bridge the gap. Viva la France!

President Obama said today that while he does not have the full support of the international community (an understatement to say the least), the United States and France are "inseparable" in their resolve for sanctions. How the once mighty United States has fallen to think that France has come to our rescue while the other world powers (we are, for the time being the only superpower) ignore our wishes.

The Russian-U.S. Negotiations Over Sanctions

This cartoon is a big f@&$ing deal

Monday Morning Dose of Political Humor Courtesy of the Vice President

Vice President Joe Biden, if not good for much, is definitely good for a quote of the day. For those who think his on camera, on the air whisper to President Obama during the health care bill announcement was an aberration, it is apparently business as usual in the Biden home. The cartoon below caught some of those special moments:

Study shows pandemic H1N1 can fail to respond to antiviral drugs

Studies Conducted By The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

The study, to be released in Clinical Infectious Diseases (CID), reports that "that even a short course of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) can lead to antiviral resistance and that patients can develop resistance to peramivir, an alternative to oseltamivir in emergency situations."

The study results point out the need for the rapid development of new antiviral drugs that can fight the infection. The name of the genetic mutation found in some flu strains which has proven drug resistant is H275Y.

Said Dr. Matthew Memoli, co-head of the research team, "...but these cases of rapid appearance of drug-resistant 2009 H1N1 influenza in immune-compromised patients are worrisome and should prompt clinicians to reconsider how they use available flu drugs...As clinicians, we should carefully consider our treatment options and use all the drugs available to us wisely, This is especially important in a patient with prolonged infection or when an antiviral drug fails to cure the patient after the recommended course of treatment."

According to the World Health Organization, 267 cases of Tamiflu-resistant H1N1 have been reported since the pandemic started last year.

The study will be out in the May 1 edition of CID.

The Downward Spiral Of Socialism As A College Experiment

How Does Socialism Inspire The Masses To Innovate And Strive For Success?

The answer is? It doesn't!

The story below, from an academic example of socialism in action, shows the process of a systematic decline in the performance metrics of a society. It is a story of learned behavior, and a sapping of motivation and desire. Not to give away the ending, but all fail!

The Socialist Experiment

An economics professor, reported to be from Texas Tech, made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would
be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on
Obama's plan". All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D!

No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

Jews supporting Obama need to ask themselves a question: Why?

Obama Treats Netanyahu As Enemy, Not Ally

When Prime Minister of Israel Netanyahu visited the White House this week, it provided the definitive answer to a question that I had asked myself and others during the presidential campaign. Why were the Jews coming out in droves for then candidate Obama. His past, in terms of those he surrounded himself with, made very clear that he was most likely not a friend of the Jews or of Israel.

Netanyahu visited the White House this week to meet with President Obama and was offered none of the pomp and circumstance that a state leader is normally given as signs of respect. He was given a list of demands by Obama, and when he did not offer immediate acquiescence, the President left him saying that he was going to go have dinner with Michelle and the kids.

Would he have offered a list of demands followed by a slap in the face to the leaders of the Palestinian Authority? That is doubtful as the only party being asked to bend over is Israel.

While American Jews, typically liberal, fell in love with the concept of Obama, it is time for them to wake up and realize what they should have realized all along. The President is no friend of Israel, and by extension the Jews in the United States, at a time when a strong ally in the United States is desperately needed.

Following is an excerpt from Atlas Shrugs written by Pamela Geller that states the case in a very clear and concise way:

Tickle torture of Iranian leader: New plan by the United States?

The United States Backs Off Of Tough Sanctions

A report by the Wall Street Journal says that in order to bring Russia and China along on the road for sanctions against Iran, certain tough measures have been taken off of the board. Among those reported to have been removed from consideration are Iran's ability to tap international banking and credit market sources as well as access to international waterways and airspace.

Diplomacy Won't Work, Sanctions Need To Be Watered Down And All The While Force Is Out Of The Question. What Now?

The solution for the Iranian nuclear weapons program problem could therefore be multi-pronged without using the methods mentioned above. We already know that sitting at a table negotiating with terrorists won't work. At the same time multiple waves of sanctions have been tried and been proven totally ineffective. Force is not even an option at the present time. The permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany have disparate views and needs when it comes to Iran. The United States, so eager to form some type of coalition, sits by and does nothing.

Al-Qaeda "booby traps" for female suicide bombers

Breast Implant Bombs To Circumvent Body Scanners

As reported in the Times of India, MI5 has discovered that al-Qaeda is inserting implants made of the explosive PETN into the breasts of female suicide bombers. These implants are not able to be detected by body scanners.

This is another example of the terrorist organizations ability to stay one jump ahead of advances in security techniques. In addition, MI5 has found that surgery is being used to implant explosives into the thighs of men.

Because the inserts are undetectable by scanning, and because such a small amount of PETN is required to blow a hole in the fuselage of a plane, new techniques and security protocols need to be developed and implemented quickly to provide security to both passengers on the plane, and those innocents who may be in and around a target.

This will mean more time and inconvenience at security checkpoints, but that is a consequence in fighting the war on terror.

Pakistan looking for U.S. Nukes

A high-level delegation will be arriving in Washington this week for meetings with officials from both the defense department and diplomatic corp. They will have on their agenda a request for United States aid in developing a civilian nuclear power program. This would be the quid pro quo for what the Pakistani government says is it's crackdown on Islamic militants.

Terrorist recruiter ordered released from Gitmo due to a lack of legal grounds?

Aren't We At War? Wouldn't An Al-Qaeda Recruiter Held At Gitmo Be A Prisoner Of War?

Judge James Robertson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ordered that Mohamedou Ould Slahi be released from Gitmo saying that the government did not have legal grounds to hold him.

Are The Inmates Running The Asylum?

Only in the United States could a man, once called "the highest value detainee" being held at Gitmo, be released for reasons having to do with the criminal court system. We are at war! Remember that phrase, because our government seems to have forgotten it.
Who is more dangerous than the people who carry out an attack? The person with the skills to recruit these people. Mohamedou Ould Slahi recruited Mohammed Atta, and others who took part in the 9/11 attacks. He has also suspected of being involved in other al-Qaeda operations. We are at war and our enemy plays by no rules!...

There ain't no rules here, we're trying to accomplish something

Representative Alcee Hastings, Member Of The House Rules Committee

Speaking about getting health care legislation passed, Representative Alcee Hastings made one of those comments that are meant for behind closed doors, out in the light of day. He is ironically a member of the House Rules Committee, and apparently feels that if the Democrats think legislation is important, they have the right do whatever it takes inside or outside of the rules to get it done.

"There ain't no rules here, we're trying to accomplish something. . . .All this talk about rules. . . .When the deal goes down . . . we make 'em up as we go along." Representative Alcee Hastings, Democrat Florida

This is your government in action. If you don't agree with it, let your representatives in Washington know. How can we have true homeland security, when our leaders are will to do whatever it takes to get what they want.

The TSA appointment of Nawar Shora: Are we more or less safe?

Legal Director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) Joining The TSA

Nawar Shora served as the legal director of the ADC after joining the organization as an intern in 1999. In his tenure there he fought the government over what the organization saw as security abuses against minorities. He is being brought into the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA), part of the Department of Homeland Security, to serve as senior adviser for its office of civil rights and liberties.

Now while the methodology of security is an area of great debate in terms of the profiling versus not profiling question, a larger question might be the hidden mandate of the organization that Shora is coming from...

First Biden Gets Blindsided, And Now Hillary Clinton Is Slapped

The Obama administration's lack of standing internationally is a problem for our homeland security

On a recent trip to Israel to discuss the potential for peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, Israel caught Vice President Biden completely off guard when they announced plans to build new settlement homes in East Jerusalem.

This topic has been an area of great dispute, and to announce it during this visit was a direct slight to Biden, and by extension the Obama administration.

Were The Munitions Delivered To Diego Garcia Meant For Israel All Along?

In a story yesterday titled United States readies attack on Iran, there has been speculation in some quarters that deliveries of bunker buster bombs to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean have been to prepare the United States for an attack on the nuclear facilities infrastructure in Iran.

It now appears that these munitions may have been meant for delivery to Israel and were instead diverted by the Obama administration as punishment for the Israeli plan to build settlement houses in Jerusalem.

Being called the Slaughter Solution, it is named after Representative Louise Slaughter who is the Chairwoman of the House committee that would have to approve using it.

Is Social Security compromising national security?

If We Continue To Fund Our Deficits By Borrowing From China It Is

As discussed in the column, Terror in the pits, there is more than one way for our national security to be challenged. There are of course the traditional ways of terrorist attacks and military attacks. The United States has, through uncontrolled and some might say irresponsible spending by our leaders in Washington, opened itself up to another type of threat, economic terrorism.

Funding The Deficit

With huge current deficits, and even larger deficits on the horizon if the Obama health care reform package is passed, the United States has become economically beholden to countries who not very long ago were our political enemies. China in particular hold massive amounts of our treasury securities, and we rely on them to continue buying more. We also rely on the fact that they will not begin to dump their holdings on a market already saturated.

Health care legislation video for dummies

Videos Attempting To Explain The Unexplainable Of The Health Care Bill

As we enter a critical week for the life or death of President Obama's health care reform legislation, the following video clips take an extremely complicated topic, and attempt to break it down into terms understandable by you and I, the rank and file citizen.

Now this is not to imply that any of our voting congressmen and congresswoman have either read or understand any of the components of this far reaching health care legislation. Nor do I suggest that any comprehend the impact this bill will have on either the quality of health care going forward, or for the economic standing of the country. Far from it. Rather, this bill has become the focal point of the Obama presidency, and he, along with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, will stop at nothing in the attempt to cram it down the American publics throat.

Hopefully one or more of these videos will shed some light on the subject for you. I am hoping the same for myself. The clips are not new, but then neither is this bill. While they will not make you any more of an expert on this legislation than your representatives are, it will definitely help make things a little bit clearer.

Satellite imagery of "peaceful" Iranian missile launch pad

North Korea Suspected To Be Helping Iran Develop A Missile Launch Complex In Senman

The development by Iran of the Simorgh space-launch vehicle (SLV) gives that country a new and improved delivery method for a nuclear armed missile, were they allowed to acquire a nuclear capability. Recent satellite imagery obtained from IHS Jane's now shows a heavily fortified construction site three miles from the existing missile launch site in Senman. The design is similar to a new North Korean launch site, and according to Jane's clearly shows the Iranian determination to develop an effective missile delivery system.

This action by Iran comes as the United States continues to do little, save an ineffective effort to garner international support for sanctions, to stop that country's move to become a nuclear state.

In a time when some world leaders would like to deny that the holocaust ever happened, The Auschwitz Album  chronicles the horrors that occurred at Auschwitz-Birkenau. The album was donated to Yad Vashem, founded in 1953 to be the world center for the "documentation, research, education and commemoration of the Holocaust."

The holocaust represents one of the darkest episodes in the history of man. These pictures will elicit a range of emotions and feelings, but will also bring added meaning to the phrase, Never Again!

"Jihad Jane": American citizen, white, a woman and a terrorist

Colleen R. LaRose aka Jihad Jane

In the ongoing war on terror, one new and extremely troubling battle involves the rise of those who are citizens of the United States, that for one reason or another choose to conspire with terrorists. They then plan and attempt to implement attacks in this country or overseas.

Homegrown Terrorists Initially Raise Fewer Red Flags

Holding United States citizenship, a passport allowing for much less scrutiny at borders and in many cases not fitting into the profile that intelligence agencies would consider for an Islamic terrorist, these people pose a real and present risk to the homeland security of our country. It is not until they either slip up or get caught in the surveillance net of other suspects that they are stopped. Until that time they will have the ability to move, recruit and plan under the radar.

For many analysts of terrorism, it is this group, homegrown terrorists, that now pose one of the greatest risks to to the country.

The Mission Of Jihad Jane...

Israel: Potential for crippling sanctions against Iran are "grim"

"The chances now seem grim regarding sanctions that will be crippling," Ambassador Gabriela Shalev
So says the Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, basing it on the fact that China and Russia are more interested in focusing on diplomacy. This leads to the question of whether these countries, as well as others that oppose sanctions, are really interested in preventing Iran from attaining a nuclear capability.

Understanding that  President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for wiping Israel off of the face of the earth, it would appear that this is the country that stands with the most to lose. The three sets of sanctions that have been imposed by the United Nations have not worked, so it is naive to believe that either sanctions or diplomacy will work this time either...

Global nuclear weapons: Who has them, and how many do they have?

While The Speculation Over Iran's Nuclear Capabilities Continue, Who Has The Capability Now?

The conversation continues over when Iran will have the capability to deploy and deliver a nuclear warhead, or to possibly provide a nuclear device to a terrorist organization for delivery by other means. The idea that a terrorist state will at some point have this type of destructive power at it's fingertips is frightening, and a circumstance that needs to be avoided at all costs.

At the same time, over 20,000 nuclear devices already exist around the world. While most are hopefully well secured by those states who possess them, serious questions exist concerning who has control over these weapons in others.

Who manages the stockpile of weapons in a country like Pakistan? Are they friends, or is there potential for a rogue inside the government to take control and fire a missile, or sell nuclear material to an enemy of the world?

The fall of the New York and United States empires?

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." - Lord Acton

What Are Some Of The Factors Leading To The Fall Of The Roman Empire?

- Decline in morals and values of society;
- Political corruption
- Unemployment (here now) and Inflation (huge potential problem if money continues to be printed at an accelerating pace)

Are There Any Similarities To The United States Today?

Some who read this will say the premise is ridiculous. To suggest that society in the United States today is going the way of Roman society at the end of that empire is absurd. But is it? Terms will be used such as business as usual, nothing to worry about, been happening forever and no worse today than fifty years ago. Politics are politics and politicians will be politicians they will say.

Forget for a minute about the examples of decline in the moral fiber of today's society and the devaluing of life and values spearheaded by entertainment focused primarily on sex and violence...

Dylan Ratigan video of Tea Party rant on MSNBC

How Not To Conduct An Interview

While "interviewing" Mark Williams of the Tea Party this week, Dylan Ratigan of MSNBC shows how to conduct a self-serving and biased episode rather than a substantive discussion meant to reveal the facts on a subject. Ratigan accused the Tea Party movement of welcoming Nazis and racists, and would not allow Williams to respond before cutting him off completely. This may be a style thought by MSNBC to drive ratings and attract viewers, but it obviously accomplishes the opposite result.

Ratigan was formerly at CNBC.

2009 sets disturbing post-WW II record for reported anti-Semitic incidents around the world

Anti-Semitic Incidents Most On Record Worldwide Since The End Of World War II

In the beginning three months of 2009, directly after the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, there were as many anti-Semitic incidents as in the whole of 2008. The trend was felt worldwide, but nowhere more clearly than in France. Incidents in 2009 were up 75% over the 2008 total, 832 to 474 ( statistics from the Jewish Community Protection Service). Although the events in Gaza can partially explain the rise, the trend had already taken an upward turn prior to 2009. One theory for the upward movement in incidents anecdotally looks at the corresponding rise in the Islamic population in France.
