Berkeley City Council "tables" the resolution that would have made Pfc. Bradley Manning a hero

It was a realization by the Berkeley City Council that, even for Berkeley, this vote would have been over the top egregious. Last night, in an 8-0 vote with one abstention, it tabled the resolution that would have elevated Pfc. Bradley Manning to the status of hero.

Berkeley Mayor Tom Bater said that there was not enough information to determine whether the Manning tag should be hero or traitor, so the vote was shelved, temporarily. Let me help the Mayor out on this one, traitor.

They found a way around having the vote, but unfortunately the intent is still present as this statement by the Mayor suggests, and the resolution may come off of the table at some point in the future:

"We don't even know if he (leaked the files). We're interested in not trying to make that determination. We are willing to watch it and to consider it in the future, and if we feel it's appropriate to us to make some statement, we'll bring it back to our council."
