Saudi Prince "just says no" to the Ground Zero Mosque

Do You Hear That Sound? Is That A Pin Dropping Near The Proposed Ground Zero Mosque?

It could be, because there has been little in the news recently regarding the proposed mosque. It has been the sound of silence, or what it is that the current news cycle has been comprised of. This most recent news cycle has had very little to do with the proposed Ground Zero Mosque (GZM) and its planned construction mere steps away from the World Trade Center site destroyed by Islamic terrorists on 9/11.

At the end of the day, however, this topic is far too important to be relegated to the ups and downs of the attention span of the American people, coupled with the drive for ratings by the dispensers of the news who are always looking for greener pastures.

Maybe we are just in a quiet period, or maybe, in this time of 24 hour news, other stories have filled in the gaps either with their level of stupidity, relative importance or sensationalism. Stories like Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar storming off the set of The View when they were displeased by the references made by Bill O'Reilly to Muslims and terrorism. Or the mid-term elections so critical to the future of the country, the firing of Juan Williams and of course the Chilean miners whose rescue captivated a world.

In reality though, what could be more important than a fundamental question of right and wrong and the national security of the nation?

Saudi Prince Says No To GZM As It Is Too Close To A Strip Club

That as well as a statement of sensitivity to the feelings of the victims family's. Whatever the reason, whether sincere or self-serving, this opposition will hopefully go a long way towards putting a lid on the Ground Zero Mosque conversation.

Prince Alwaleed bin Talal is no stranger to Ground Zero and 9/11, having had his offer of a $10 million donation summarily declined by then Mayor Guiliani due to statements he made at the time of the attacks, that the U.S. "must address some of the issues that led to such a criminal attack" and "re-examine its policies in the Middle East."

If nothing else, with substantial investments in the U.S., the Prince is most assuredly a pragmatist, and we will hopefully see an end in the near future to the Mosque at Ground Zero conversation.
