To my liberal friends, I will put it out there that this was a very well written and well presented speech in Cairo, to an audience that was well prepared to hear it. The content was U.S. deprecating as was to be expected, and relatively easy on the Arab world as was also to be expected.
For the moderates worldwide it portrayed a shift in tone that moved away from the tone set by the Bush administration.

Our True Target Audience, However, Are Not The Moderates
Those listening to the speech who are our greatest concern are unfortunately not going to be swayed by the conciliatory tone offered by our President. This contingent is dedicated to the death and destruction of all who do not have the same ideals as they do. This radical end of the spectrum was listening, but most likely not convinced.
In parts of the world where a new generation of radicals are being educated in madrasa's, they did not stand up and cheer at the end. Peace is not the end game for this old and new generation of those who consider any society with different ideas to be infidels deserving of death. Men, woman and children. This is our target audience, and the key is to reach them. Not those who agree with our positions.
That is the dilemma, and the solution to that pressing world problem was not accomplished by this speech. Those on the left would say that this is negative speak. That you have to start somewhere. I agree, but we will need more than a public relations campaign.
The Employment/Unemployment Report
The employment report this morning showed an improvement in the velocity of the loss of jobs, but a 300,000+ loss none the less. The unemployment number went up to 9.4% which is the highest level since 1983. The bond market tanked on the news, and stock market futures rallied hard, although not as hard as you would expect from a number that came in 200,000 jobs less than expected.
The markets have rallied 40% off of the lows, and may now be looking for the true indication of stock prices, the earnings part of the P/E ratio. Sphere: Related Content

I see this speech in Cairo as doing one thing: emboldening the Muslim world to push for the finish of Israel.
Odd how the rhetoric ramped up immediately after the speech. Saudia Arabia is urging Obama to "impose" a mideast solution.
We know what that means. The speech had nothing to do with encouraging the Middle East to be more tolerant, but it had everything to do with saying the U.S. will support you by trying to understand you.
And the irony is that we will never understand the radical wing that wanted to destroy us before the speech, and who wants to destroy us after the speech.
mike, you did not conquer rome in a day...
