Rantings Of A Radical Right Winger?

I wrote a post yesterday asking where our Treasury Secretary was at a time when it seems that our economy, the world economy's and financial markets are spiraling out of control (Has Anyone Seen Our Treasury Secretary?)

Remarkably I was accused by a reader in a comment of being a radical right wing Republican who was about to become politically irrelevant criticizing our President who has bold ideas, acts decisively, is looking out for the middle class, does well in the polls, and is looking out for the poor so that rich people don't have 100 foot yachts. Apparently we don't need our leaders to come out and say things to the people every day. It also seems that I conjure up non-troversies (get it) to rant about.

A few things about that. One I appreciate the fact that I am relevant enough to run the risk of becoming irrelevant. That is a higher position than I thought I had attained. Second, anyone who reads anything that I write with an ounce of objectivity would probably not term my views radical unless as I said in my response radical is saying anything that may be a criticism of our new president. Third, most of what he said was not correct.

We need our leaders to come out and reassure when things appear to be bad and not come out and say things meant to scare people about the dire state of the economy. We do need bold ideas, but what we have so far as policy ideas have been nothing but destructive to the middle class if you define that by the condition of our markets. Now the typical response to that would be that it is the richest 5% that cares about the stock market. Well we know that isn't true. We have a proposed budget that has spooked the markets with policy's that would be damaging to certain industry's and by extension all of us.

Leaders have to be flexible enough to change on the fly and recognize when what might be great ideas in a strong economy may need to be delayed in a crumbling economy. Money continues to be poured into failing financial institutions while maintaining the management that put them there in the first place. Maybe some of these institutions have to be allowed to fail as they were during the S&L crisis in the '80s. We need Tim Geithner to come out and articulate the problems and the plans. Silence is golden but not in this case.

I will say it again. Nobody wants this guy to fail because some of us have to retire, put kids through college, pay a mortgage, etc. I will admit that he inherited a tough situation but that he can't let himself be led by Pelosi and Reid. I would love the Republicans to win in the mid-term elections and in the next presidential election. But if our economy continues on the current path along with the EU and Great Britain, then there may be a greatly different and unrecognizable country and world in 2012. Has anyone seen the goings on in the developing nations lately? Hasn't gotten a whole lot of press but the situations in those country's are tenuous plus.

My ideas are not radical, not meant to be Republican or Democrat, but meant to look at situations and decipher what is wrong. I then hear, "What's your idea to fix it? All you do is criticize." I'll be honest with you. I don't have a clue, but I sure as hell hope the leaders in Washington do. But so far it has been much less than impressive.

What makes us superior to animals that can't think logically and intelligently is that we can. Blind faith and pure hatred of one man and his legacy is not going to serve any of us. Democrats need to take an objective look at where we are at this point in Obama's young presidency and ask themselves if we are on the right track. Not just yes we are as the logical extension to yes we can.

We all acknowledge that some great mistakes were made during the terms of the last two presidents. Now it is up to this president. I can write the responses that I am going to get myself from those closed minded people who will say what they will say. I ask one question:

Are we better off today than we were on January 20th. A picture is worth a thousand words:

I hope you two will be very happy together which is not typically the response you would expect from a radical who looks for non-troversies to rant on. You two definitely deserve each other.
